In Scotland, silkies/selkies are seals that can take off their seal skin and become a human on land. If the skin is lost or stolen, they must stay in their human form until they can put it back on again.
lyrics
Shed your skin and dance on the land
Don’t stay out past sunrise
The sea shore is where you'll find all the men
who want to keep you as their prize
Skin left carefreely on the sand
A selfish predator spies
Now you’re human, no flippers, just hands
Such sadness imprisoned in your eyes
A woman in flesh
The seal undressed
Life on the ground
You are spellbound
Years later and you’re married to the man
Many nights longing for the sea, so you cry
You’ll leave the family you two began
Always ready to say your final goodbye
A seal in her skin
No longer human
Life in the sea
Forever to be
